“St Pierre” is a bright, recently completely re-decorated fifth floor apartment with lift, balcony and breathtaking views of the Sacré Coeur to the North and the roof-tops of Paris to the South. The apartment, covering some 46m2 (500 sq ft), is in a traditional, stone built Parisian apartment building and is fully equipped to sleep in comfort up to five people across three good sized rooms, plus kitchen, bathroom and separate lavatory. There is free wifi internet access (a laptop is provided for guests’ use), international cable TV channels, DVD and CD players, with a range of disks, and free local landline telephone calls as well as to selected international destinations.
With parquet floors, simple decoration and windows facing West, East and North, St Pierre is bright and welcoming even in the dullest weather and utterly glorious when the sun shines. The apartment, set high above the bustle of Montmartre, is quiet and serene – the ideal place to rest and relax after a full day sightseeing or working in the City of Lights. It is very much “home from home” for the owners and thus decorated, furnished and equipped for comfort and maximum convenience, with all the little extras and attention to detail that will make your stay a real pleasure. Who knows, you might enjoy the apartment so much you may not go out much? But don’t take our word for it about what a great choice St Pierre is for visitors to Paris – read the many positive comments in the online guestbook!
Accommodation and facilities
On entering the apartment there is a hallway off which lead doors to the sitting room, bathroom, WC and kitchen.
The main sitting room faces west and catches the sunshine throughout the afternoon and evening. It has a new, large leather sofa bed, which converts into a proper double bed with an extremely comfortable mattress, two leather armchairs, a TV (with French and international cable channels), DVD player with selection of English and French DVDs, hi-fi with a selection of CDs, telephone/answering machine with free landline calls to selected countries, wifi internet connection and a large wardrobe. French windows lead onto the balcony, complete with striped roll-out awning for shade on hot days. The balcony is comfortably big enough to use the provided table and chairs to enjoy an al fresco breakfast, lunch or evening drink while soaking up the views of the Sacré Coeur to the north and roof tops of Paris away to the south.
The compact kitchen is fully equipped with an electric oven and gas hob, dishwasher, washing machine, fridge, electric kettle, toaster, coffee makers, teapots, and all the crockery, cutlery, pots, pans, glasses and gadgets to enjoy dinner at home (there are nearby food markets every Friday afternoon/evening in place d’Anvers, every Sunday morning in rue des Abbesses/rue Lepic in the 18th and rue des Martyrs in the 9th). The kitchen window has delightful views to the Marche St Pierre and surrounding buildings.
The bathroom is brightly tiled with wash basin and shower with a sabot type French tub. There is a range of soaps, shampoos and shower gels. Towels are provided.
There is a separate WC.
The dining room features a sofa bed (converts to a large single bed), dining table, which converts to seat six easily. The draw of the wash stand beneath the mirror contains useful odds and ends, such as celotape, sewing thread, elastic bands, string etc. Other amenities for guests include: a box with different types of chargers and adaptors; a CD/Radio; and a laptop.
Leading off the dining room is the main bedroom, with a modern double bed, chest of drawers and a small radio. The bedroom window looks onto the Marche St Pierre and has views across Parisian rooftops with glimpses of the Sacré Coeur.
There central heating throughout and constant hot water from a gas combi boiler.
Minimum 7 nights booking at Christmas, New year and Easter
No Smoking inside the apartment although smoking on the balcony is OK and ashtrays are provided (there’s even an awning to keep smokers dry in the rain).
To preserve the parquet and avoid unnecessary noise for the downstairs neighbour, guests are requested politely to take their shoes off while in the apartment – slippers and socks are provided.
Location
You could hardly have a more perfect Parisian location. St Pierre is an easy 15/20 minute walk from the Gare du Nord, although you can also reach it by bus or metro.
Locally, leave out of the front door and close by you're in place Saint-Pierre at the foot of the Butte Montmartre, looking up at the extraordinary Sacré Coeur.
Head west and within five minutes you're in the midst of the trendy Abbesses area, with its many bars and restaurants, as well as growing numbers of eclectic boutiques. On Sundays rue des Abbesses and rue Lepic pulsate with an excellent food market. And don’t forget to pay a visit to Les Deux Moulins, Amelie’s café on Rue Lepic.
Head east and you're immediately in the main fabric and decorative materials district of Paris. Every conceivable fabric, button, tassel and accessory within a few hundred metres – heaven for dress, curtain and soft furnishing devotees!
Head south over the border into the 9th arrondissement and you’re in Place d’Anvers, with its small garden and Friday evening food market. Walk a little further and you reach the broad, leafy avenue Trudaine which runs into rue des Martyrs, yet another Paris street full of interesting cafes and food shops.
Getting around Paris is also extremely easy from St Pierre.
Metro Anvers (one minute away on boulevard de Rochechouart at the bottom of rue de Steinkerque) is on the east-west line 2, which takes you via Monceau and the fashionable 17th and 8th arrondissements to the Arc de Triomphe in one direction, and Nation via La Chapelle, with its underground passage leading directly into the Gare du Nord, and Pere Lachaise cemetery in the other.
Walk five minutes to metro Abbesses and you're on the north-south line 12, which going south takes you to Gare St Lazare, for Les Grands Magasins, Madeleine, Concorde, onto the Left Bank - Solferino (for Musee d'Orsay), Sevres Babylone (for Bon Marche) - and finally Montparnasse.
There are also three useful buses nearby. Catch number 30 on Boulevard de Rochechouart for Trocadero, via Arc de Triomphe, in one direction and Gare du Nord in the other. Catch number 67 by Pigalle metro (5 minutes walk away) for the Louvre and Hotel de Ville. Finally, 85 from Avenue Trudaine goes south, through the heart of the Left Bank to the Luxembourg Gardens. If you don't fancy public transport, Les Grands Magasins, Opera and Madeleine are a gentle 20 minute stroll down the hill.
