Description
An area in the 17th arrondissement near the Square des Batignolles it is often called the "Village" Batignolles, and for good reason - a neighbourhood centred around a charming church and a verdant park, the narrow streets replete with gracious buildings and specialty shops make visitors feel they are in a real village in Paris. Somehow everything feels a bit more intimate here.
The apartment at on rue Mariotte fits in perfectly with the neighbourhood - charming, personal, and familial.
Please note the owner had a cat who stayed in the apartment for several months in 2009. The cat is no longer staying there.
Situated just around the corner from the tree-lined square of the Mairie of the 17th arrondissement, the flat is in a building at the L-bend of a quiet street. Located on the 3rd floor, the apartment is accessed by either a large staircase or an elevator. At 80 square meters, it can comfortably sleep 4 adults or a family of 4 to 6.
Upon entering, the flat is laid out in an "etoile" plan, meaning all of the rooms are arranged around a central entry hall. A massive bookshelf dominates the entry hall, offering an eclectic collection of reading material.
The generous kitchen opens up into the entry, allowing easy access to the living and dining rooms directly across the hall and a cosy area around the raised bar. The Aga-type range is enough for any professional gourmet and the large fridge and freezer allow room for a fully stocked larder during your stay. Extras like a washer/dryer combo, microwave, and plenty of kitchen utensils make staying in and cooking more appealing than before.
The living room and dining room are entered through airy French doors from the hallway and are connected by a large open doorway. Each is ornamented by a marble chimney with period mirror and end in banks of windows overlooking the street, filled with plants and flowers. A large contemporary sofa bed and bright antique armchairs fill the living room, and a flat screen cable TV in the corner offers more modern entertainment options.
The dining table can seat four or six comfortably, if the desire to dine in strikes.
Progressing towards the back of the apartment, the WC off the hall offers easy access for all guests, while the bathroom off the main bedroom is tucked away behind a charming pair of louvered doors. The bath is equipped with a generous vanity and sink, and a full-size bathtub with showerhead, for a long bath or a quick shower.
The main bedroom has a double bed and a delightful mirrored armoire and is located on the courtyard side of the building.
The second bedroom is equipped with two twin beds - actually, one twin and one Murphy bed, so if there is only one person in the room the second bed can be folded up out of the way, perfect for when the urge to practice early morning yoga strikes. A large wardrobe is provided for storing bags. Tall, western facing windows flood the room with light in the afternoon.
Minimum 7 nights booking at Christmas, New year and Easter
No Smoking.
Location
The immediate area is a real Parisian haven - the rue des Batignolles has all of the shopping one could desire, including one of the recent winners of best baguette in Paris (you can't miss it look for the blue building on the left as you walk towards the church).
In the square around the church, one can peruse the windows of antique stores or dine alfresco at one of the many restaurants encircling the square. Rue des Dames is fast becoming a restaurant row, and every Saturday there is a Bio (Organic) Farmer's Market on the boulevard des Batignolles.
Just a short walk from the flat is Place de Clichy, where multiple metro and bus lines are available to access any other part of the city.
The No 2 line runs around the old city border line and takes you to the Arc de Triomphe, while a short ride on the No 13 stops at Varenne and the Musee Rodin or Montparnasse station.
The 95 bus runs directly in front of the famous glass pyramid at the Louvre. The 80 goes directly to the Eiffel Tower and both are caught just in front of a large cinema, in case a rainy afternoon warrants a quick matinee.
In addition, the Cimetiere Montmartre, the Moulin Rouge and the charming neighbourhood of Montmartre, topped by Sacre Coeur, are just past Place de Clichy, a mere stroll.
